Aldi is Expanding Reach with 400 New Stores
BATAVIA, Ill., August 16, 2023 – Aldi buys Winn-Dixie and Harveys. In a strategic move to bolster its presence in the Southeast, ALDI has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket.
This acquisition is part of a broader divestiture of Southeastern Grocers and will add approximately 400 stores to ALDI’s network, enhancing its ability to offer top-notch products at unbeatable prices.

Despite the economic downturn causing many retailers to close stores, ALDI is aggressively pursuing expansion, solidifying its position as one of the nation’s fastest-growing grocers.
The acquisition will encompass approximately 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

The company recently deepened its roots by opening its 26th regional headquarters and distribution center in Loxley, Alabama, with plans to open 20 new ALDI locations by year-end.

Closing Timeframe

According to the press release there is a plan to convert some Winn-Dixie stores to become Aldi stores. But Aldi plans on continuing to run non-converted stores as Winn-Dixie Grocery stores.
Like the Winn-Dixie stores there seems to be a plan to convert some Harveys stores to become Aldi stores. But Aldi plans on continuing to run non-converted stores as Harveys Supermarket.
With this acquisition/merger of around 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys locations Aldi plans to have 2400+ locations across the nation in 2024.
