Chateauneuf-du-Pape From ALDI

Aldi’s Most Expensive Wine? Chateauneuf-du-Pape

Domaine Condorcet Chateauneuf-de-Pape (2021)

You may not expect to find French wine at your local Aldi in the US but Aldi does rotate through a variety of wines and occasionally you can find something like this 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape French Wine.

I was able to pick up a bottle for $24.99 at my local Aldi in January 2023 and from looking online it seems like this wine was available across the country but in limited quantities. Twenty five bucks is definitely the most money I’ve spent on a bottle of wine from Aldi, and it is probably the most I have seen a bottle of wine listed for at Aldi.

I am not sure if Aldi has sold a more expensive wine in the past so I will just call this the most expensive wine at Aldi right now.

What is Châteauneuf-du-Pape Wine?

According to Forbes Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the most well known wines from the Southern Rhone Valley.

This region is one of the warmer wine growing regions in France which creates wine with some unique flavor profiles.

This bottle from Aldi describes it as a complex red wine with intense redcurrant and cherry flavors, and a finish of earth, spice, and pepper.

Is It A Good Deal?

I am no expert in wine and am perfectly happy drinking Winking Owl Wine so there is a good chance this wine will be lost on me. But from looking online this type of wine generally sells for $40+ and can get pretty expensive depending on vintage, age, etc.

I think this is a good price if you are into wine and want to give this type of wine a try without breaking the bank but I fully expect this is not going to be the best example of a Chateauneuf du Pape.

From what I read online many people recommend buying a few bottles at this price and waiting a few years in between drinking them. This cellaring process can change the flavor and could be worth the effort for a more expensive wine like this.

I only have one bottle so I will try it out soon when I have a meal that will fit this nice wine. If it is great and my store still has some in stock I may pick up a couple more and let them age a bit.
