Aldi’s Session Ale Just In Time For Summer
Aldi’s beer selection seems to constantly be changing, which is nice if you are like me and like to try different beers and aren’t too picky. It can be a bit of a pain when you find a beer you like and you go back to Aldi it has already been replaced. That could happen with Hopping Nomad IPA, a session ale made by State Of Brewing in Waunakee, Wisconsin.
The State of Brewing at Aldi
State Of Brewing is the name you will find on a lot of Aldi’s in-house beers but that brand is made by Octopi Brewing. They are one of the largest contract manufacturers for beverages in the midwest. Contract manufacturing is how Aldi sources a lot of their “store brand” products including alcohol. They aren’t running a giant factory that make cereal, German cakes, pizza, and wine. They hire companies that are already running those factories to make a version for Aldi under one of their brands.

My Review
I picked up a six-pack for $7.99 last week, not bad for a “craft” beer and well worth the price in this case but I feel like Aldi’s beer prices have gone up a buck or two in the past few months. I haven’t compared to other craft beers in stores so I can’t say if it is widespread like the increase in food prices. Either way I would buy this one again. It is a session ale which means it is a bit lighter on the alcohol than other craft beers so you can have a couple in a session. A session ale is meant to be refreshing and drinkable and this hits on both notes. It is an IPA so it does have some hops that gives it some bitterness. But this is not overly bitter like some stronger IPAs.
I’d pair the Hopping Nomad IPA with just about anything off the grill. It is a perfect summer beer to go with burgers, hotdogs, chicken, or ribs. It is light and refreshing with a bit of citrus so it would pair well with fish or other light meals. I had it with a steak hot off the grill. It held up nicely to that but you might want to go with something with a bit stronger flavor for balance.

First timer drinking an IPA
I can’t describe what I tasted but I liked it. Normally I like Mexican Cerveza with a boost in the abv. I like lagers and drafts. I am not a real talented beer taster; I am a talented drinker, and I will get this again,
Great Summer Beer
A nice session ale with some flavor!
