Aldi’s Adjustable Dumbbell
Ready to give your home gym an upgrade? Aldi will have the Crane Adjustable Dumbbell (50-lb) available as an Aldi Find for the week of 3/30/2022. Adjustable dumbbells like these are awesome for a home gym because they give you a huge variety of exercise options with minimal footprint. With weights going from 5 pounds all the way up to 50 lbs you can quickly go from one exercise to the next. While you are in the Aldi Find Aisle you can check out the Crane interlocking floor mats for $12.99 and the Weider Adjustable Gym Bench for $84.99. You can walk out of Aldi with a full home gym!
Update 5/13/22: My local Aldi has these discounted to just below $85 which is a great price for an adjustable dumbbell set that goes up to 50 lbs. I already have an adjustable dumbbell set that doesn’t get used enough but if these drop down to the $50-60 range I will pick up two to test them out and give a full review.

Is the Crane 50-lb. Adjustable Dumbbell a Good Deal?
You might get sticker shock looking at the $170 price tag for a dumbbell, especially when you realize you probably need to buy two. Just remember the Crane Adjustable Dumbbell is replacing about 10 regular dumbbells that would weigh 275 lbs total. The website doesn’t list if it is a pair or a single dumbell but all the pictures have one dumbbell and they never say dumbbells or mention a set/pair. If they actually include two dumbbells at this price it is a steal but I am going on the assumption that the price is for one adjustable dumbbell.
If only one dumbbell is included in this deal it is an OK price but not a great deal.
If you are looking for just one dumbbell this might be a good option but assuming you want a pair your are going to spend $340. This is not a bad price for a pair of 50 pound adjustable dumbbells depending on what is important to you. If you are ok with 10 pounds being your lowest weight setting I would go with the NordicTrack option.
The NordicTrack Adjustable Dumbbell sells for $10 less right now ($329 for the pair) including shipping (at least if you have prime). The NordicTrack adjustable dumbbells go from 10 pounds to 55 pounds and can change in 5 or 2.5 lb intervals. This gives you more flexibility and a higher total weight for less money. The only downside I can see is you don’t get a dial to select the weight (can still easily change weight) and you start at 10lbs instead of 5lbs.
If you want a dial system for changing weight you can go with the name brand Bowflex SelectTech for around $400 (regular price listed at $549). The Bowflex version may have been the first and you gain the advantage of changing in 2.5 lb increments with the dial instead of 5lb with the Crane Dumbbell from Aldi. It also goes up to 52.5 lb instead of 50 lb (both start at 5 lb). The biggest advantage I see with the bowflex is it is a well known and well reviewed product that has been on the market for years.
If you want the option to add more weight to your system you can go with the PowerBlock. The big selling point for this one is you can buy expansions to go to 70 or 90 pounds if you need more weight in the future. It also used to be a good bit cheaper than the Bowflex version which is why I bought it a few years ago. You can go from 5-50 lbs in 2.5, 5, or 10 lb increments.
The biggest dislike I have with the PowerBlock is to switch the weight by 2.5 or 5 lbs you have to remove little weights from inside the handle. This is a bit slow and you have to find a spot to set the 2.5 pound tubes. It is not difficult but it makes me want to skip those 5 pound increments. Going in 10 pound increments is easy and the dumbbells (or unused weight plates) will sit on any flat surface without a storage tray.
If I was buying today I would probably go with the NordicTrack option because of the price and features. I don’t usually use 5 pound weights so starting at 10 pounds is not a downside for me and it looks like changing the weights is easier than the Powerblock but maybe not as easy as the Bowflex.
Reviews of Crane Adjustable Dumbbell (50 pound)
Great for the price.
They were 88 dollars and work as well as the more expensive sets. Love them!
Just a couple of updates: The price in Iowa did drop to $ 84.99 each, they are single dumbbells, and the set linked to in the article has increased to $ 399.99. I’ll save you some effort for your review… they do the job, adjust fairly easy and they tray they sit on could use some improvement. A deal at $85 but I’m sure with some legwork someone selling a used set would part with another brand for 150ish.
